Welcome to my dossier and portfolio My research and teaching interests have been in the general area of Computer-Aided Design in Architecture and specifically in the area of Computer-Supported Collaborative Design, Simulation and Visualization. I have established a national and an international reputation in my field and I am acknowledged in multiple ways (publications, grants, invited presentations, election to offices in societies and to editorial boards, and citations of my work). The field of computer-aided design in architecture is relatively new (established in the early 1980's) and lacks mature journals. One of the first major journals dedicated exclusively to the field is the International Journal of Architectural Computing (IJAC) and I am a member of its editorial board and published a paper in it in 2006. Conference proceedings are considered the main research outlet for my field. The vast majority of works in the CUMINCAD citation database come from conferences and mainly reference papers published in other conferences. My own research work has been cited in seventy (70) published papers, articles and reports. The most prominent association for computer-aided design in architecture in North America is the Association for Computer-Aided Design In Architecture (ACADIA). I am a long time member of ACADIA, a past editor of its quarterly journal and a member of its steering committee. In 2005 I was its president and re-elected to a second term in 2006. In 1996 I accepted a tenure-track position at the State University of New York in Buffalo. I then decided to leave Buffalo and accepted a tenure-track assistant professor offer from NJIT in 2001. I completed my dissertation and obtained my Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2004 while teaching at NJIT. In 2006 I published four papers (1 in a journal, 1 invited, and 2 conference papers) and applied for five grants (3 to NSF, 1 to the Graham Foundation, and 1 to the American Institute of Architects). On November 4, 2006, I was personally invited to submit a journal paper to the International Journal of Architectural Computing (Vol. 5, Issue 2, scheduled for publication in June 2007). Additionally, a paper I published at VAST/CIPA in 2006 was voted as one of the five best papers and selected for publication in a 2007 special issue of an ACM SIGGRAPH Journal (IT in Cultural Heritage). Although I was hired by NJIT in 2001, this resume includes work dating back to 1989. I feel it is necessary to include earlier work in order to convey the continuity of my research agenda. All entries before 2001 are clearly marked as such and preceded by an explanatory note. Sincerely,Wassim Jabi, Ph.D. wassim.jabi@gmail.com |
